Name
rights
Synopsis
Privileges to perform different system tasks.
Description
User rights are a kind of privilege granted to users and groups that allow them to perform specific tasks, such as:
Logging on locally to a computer
Forcing a system to shut down from a remote console
Adding workstations to a domain
Backing up files and directories
By default, the Administrators group is granted the most rights on a system, but other built-in groups have different rights assigned to them as well. You can assign or remove rights from users or groups, but this requires good understanding of how Group Policy works, or the results may be unexpected. For more information see rights.
Tip
Rights are different from permissions, which grant users or groups different levels of access to NTFS objects, shared folders and their contents, printers, and objects within Active Directory. For more information see permissions earlier in this chapter.
