12.12. Conclusion

As discussed in the first section of this chapter, you can use services in a variety of ways to create programs that run constantly on a Windows 2000 machine. By using the beep service in Listing 12.1 as a template, you can easily add your own code and quickly create a wide variety of services.

Services depend heavily on threads. See Chapters 6 and 7 for information on threads and thread synchronization. Services also rely on the registry, which is described in Chapter 21.
