If your methodology is to walk in, ask questions, take some notes, leave, think about things for a while, and come back, you are going to find that the CEO has moved on by the time you return. That is because at the CEO level, decisions are made and actions are taken pretty much in real time. You have to be able to give advice on the spot, or you will be invited back only when the boss has an assignment—that is, when the boss has figured out what he or she wants you to do.
