8.4. Exposure Management and Surveillance

As I've noted elsewhere, the filtration of information gets so severe as it nears the top of an organization that most senior executives, and especially the CEO, feel that what they receive is overly strained and refined. One of the trusted strategic advisor's most important roles is to ensure that crucial information makes it to the top very promptly. My term for this process is exposure management and surveillance, the purposeful monitoring of key corporate exposure sources and issues. The five goals of exposure management and surveillance are to

  1. Alert the top manager to possible threats and opportunities, and the patterns they represent.
