4.9. Busting Trust

People often assume that once a bond of trust is established, it is difficult to break. Experience demonstrates that a bond of trust, once established, generally makes reestablishing a relationship easier, but the bond itself is fragile.

Trust does seem a bit mysterious. It is far easier to identify the behaviors and attitudes that damage it. Earlier in this chapter, I defined trust as the absence of fear. As you'll note in the list that follows, fear is quite logically the absence of trust. Fear is what fills the vacuum when trust is questioned, damaged, or destroyed.
