Learning to Tell Stories

An invisible web of stories determines who pays attention to you and what your messages mean to them. Imagine putting on a pair of glasses that reveals all these stories as little thought balloons over your own and your audience’s heads, highlighting the shared and conflicting stories that will interpret what your message means. Once you can see these stories, it becomes obvious that the more stories you share the better your ability to communicate. You might choose to tailor your message to fit into an existing story shared by your audience or introduce a new story to redirect interpretation of existing circumstances, but once you see all the stories, you can never ignore them again.
