Penalties

The penalties for convicted offenders in the United Kingdom are set out in CMCHA. The offense of corporate manslaughter is punishable by way of a fine. The Act also creates two other penalties that may be imposed by the sentencing judge in addition to the fine, namely a remedial order (s9) and a publicity order (s10).

A court has to take into account the guidelines issued by the Sentencing Council (formerly known as the Sentencing Guidelines Council)1 – an independent body composed of judicial and nonjudicial members, chaired by the Lord Chief Justice – when determining the final penalty.
