PREJUDICE

Prejudice exists. There’s no denying it, some people will discriminate against you based on who you are rather than what you can contribute. And of all the barriers that can kill confidence, the suspicion of prejudice against us can be the most powerful. No other assumption so radically changes our behaviour – making us overly-sensitive and defensive and even causing us to behave in ways that confirm their perceived prejudice.

Most under-confident people have a version of this that plays out in stressful situations. These are often the very moments that can make the biggest difference to our lives – usually when we most need to impress – such as networking events, interviews or even social gatherings outside of our usual demographic. ...
