Jill Abramson was named managing editor of The New York Times in 2003, making her the first woman to hold that post. Abramson joined the Times in 1997 as the paper’s enterprise editor, based in Washington, D.C. She went on to become its Washington editor and then Washington bureau chief before relocating to New York to assume her current position.
Previously, Abramson worked at The Wall Street Journal. She served as the Journal’s Washington deputy bureau chief and investigative reporter, during which time she won the National Press Club Award for national correspondence for her political coverage of money and politics.
