CHAPTER 14

Writing E-MailsThat Get Results

“The most valuable of all talents is that of never using two words when one will do.”

—THOMAS JEFFERSON

How many business e-mails do you receive per day? I posed this question to 200 of my U.S.-based clients who hold titles of vice president and above. The average was eighty-nine per day. They reported that 25 percent (roughly twenty-two per day) was spam or junk mail. According to the survey, that leaves a whopping sixty-seven e-mails that they are required to read and respond to every day.

The goal of this chapter is to ensure that your e-mails get the attention and response they deserve.
