12.8. Conclusion

The J2EE and EJB specifications have eased the development of portable, n-tier, enterprise applications. More than ever, developers can focus on developing the application’ business logic and leverage the common plumbing provided by J2EE application servers. One area the specifications can improve on is standardization of concurrency control mechanisms like isolation levels, read-only methods, and the update intent associated with an entity access. The requirement for these types of mechanism will grow as application throughput demands grow.
