1.2. WebSphere Application Server architecture overview

When you install and run either Standard or Advanced editions of WebSphere on a single machine you will see certain key processes running. In this section we give a brief introduction to these processes and their purpose. In later chapters we will give more details and describe other optional facilities.

Figure 1 gives a high-level overview of the major components that comprise a WebSphere instance.
