8.8 XML TRANSFORMATIONS—XSL

XML is pure data—the information in an XML document does not contain information about how it is to be presented. Frequently, a lot of situations are encountered which requires transforming a document from one format (of XML) to another format (of XML). The transformed XML is functionally enhanced by means of a format that could be used for storage or presentation. Sometimes the transformation will be necessary to communicate across two different systems as part of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange). Thus it is useful for a few B2B operations.

The XML Stylesheet Language (XSL) is a standard that helps in transforming XML data. It consists of the following components:
