There are a number of technologies that come under the umbrella of the web. However, to bring a practical learning effort to fruition, there has to be a focus on one specific technology set. Accordingly, this book focuses on learning the fundamentals of web technologies in Java environment. The decision stems from (Java and related frameworks) being available on Open Source as well as being the most popular and comprehensive among web development environments today. Microsoft.NET offers an equivalent set of technologies for web development and they are equally powerful. It does not do justice to cover both these technologies in one single book within one academic session.
