We wrote the first edition of this book using Microsoft Word (which we cursed regularly) on several machines, including Kelly's generic Dell PC Pentium, super-fast, organizational behemoth and Emily's Apple Macintosh G4 (Graphite), as well as three Apple Macintosh Powerbooks — two G3s that crisscrossed the Bay Bridge and the country often enough to warrant better carrying cases for each, and one antique 520C that met an untimely (and still unsolved) death in a hotel room in Seattle.
The second edition also relied heavily on MS Word (with no abatement of frustration), as well as better, faster machines — Quicksilver replaced Graphite, and the PC was completely abandoned. One G3 laptop was replaced with a G4 iBook in the eleventh ...
