Key Recommendations

  • Set a larger timeout for TCP retransmits for the Internet, because the Internet is slower than a LAN.

  • Increase the TCP listen queue if you know it is overflowing.

  • Don’t let unused connections hang around for more than half an hour (not eight hours, as TCP originally specified).

  • Use HTTP 1.1 if possible.
