Landing pages: design, psychology and leads

When we first co-created the Web Strategy Planning Template with David Meerman Scott in 2010, we decided to make it available on our website as a free download, no registration required. Using Google Analytics, we identified that the download rate was about 50 per cent, which was exciting. One in every two visitors to the page downloaded the template, and if they were passing it on to their friends and sharing it on social media, then our flagship content was being spread far and wide.

That 50 per cent download rate was thrilling. On the downside, though:
