Summary

This chapter focused on the important and varied system security, privacy, computing, and communications components that are critical to Web commerce. The fundamentals of authentication, authorization, and non-repudiation were explored along with the means of classifying and protecting data and information. In addition, the characteristics and security issues of homogenous and heterogeneous networks were reviewed along with some useful methods of using isolation to improve the security posture of Web commerce systems. Chapter 7 will build on this information and focus in detail on vulnerability scanning, wireless reconnaissance, and penetration testing.
