Building Blocks: Your Tools

Because of the sensitive information that is involved in Web commerce, security controls must be implemented by both the service provider and the user client. The principal security building blocks available to protect critical information provide the means to encrypt transaction data, authenticate session participants, protect Web servers and browser clients, and secure network elements. These tools are explored in this chapter.
