CHAPTER 3

Important “Ilities” in Web Commerce Security

Security is one of the principal concerns of entrusting an organization's critical information to Web commerce sites not under the direct control of that organization. There are a variety of security services and characteristics that can be classified as “ilities.” These “ilities,” if properly implemented, can greatly reduce the attack surface of an organization's Web commerce platforms and provide the consumer with confidence that his or her private information is protected.

The “ilities” run the gamut from availability to ubiquity and are discussed from the perspective of secure Web commerce transactions in the following sections of this chapter.
