18.2. Request Distribution
The goal of request distribution[1] is to find the appropriate forward proxy or CDN server for a given client and request. In the forward proxy case, the forward proxy receives all requests from the clients it serves; thus, the proxy can redirect these requests to CDI partners as specified by the CDI redirection policy. The most common mechanisms of distributing requests within a CDN are described in Part III. The same mechanisms can be extended to distribute requests across multiple CDNs. In particular, DNS-based redirection can be used between CDNs in several ways.[2]
