Chapter 15. Content Delivery Networks

Having considered basic mechanisms for request redirection, we are now ready to discuss architectures for scalable content delivery from content providers to consumers. These platforms are also known as content delivery networks (CDNs). Although forward proxies, especially the cooperative proxy platforms considered in Chapter 9, have the same goal, the term CDN is historically applied only to platforms that act as agents of content providers.
