12.7. Information Used in Prefetching Algorithms

Most prefetching algorithms predict future Web accesses based on information about previous accesses. The type of information used by the prediction algorithm and the algorithm itself are closely related, so "algorithm" and "information" cannot be truly orthogonal axes of a taxonomy. Nevertheless, there is a range of information quality, and many algorithms can function (though perhaps not equally well) with several different types of information.

Three types of usage information have been used in prefetchers.
