My management style is simple: Hire good people and let them do their thing. By spending very little time telling others what to do, I have more time to do the things I like to do. My hands-off approach to management works as long as the general message—the vision for the organization—is clearly communicated and as long as others believe in the message.

Delivering a message is especially important when working online. Lacking face-to-face meetings, we rely on electronic communication. We put a message on the web and hope that people see and understand it. We wait for a reaction from an online community.
