Ten Items to Include in Family Disaster Plan

  • Secure your home and take precautionary steps to eliminate hazards.
  • Keep fresh first aid kits and get family members trained in CPR.
  • Identify family meeting places and an outside family member or friend as a central contact.
  • Maintain a supply of fresh drinking water.
  • Maintain a supply of non-perishable foods.
  • Have emergency supplies ready (battery operated radio, first aid kit, toiletries, filtered masks, medicines).
  • Develop and share an emergency evacuation plan.
  • Store an emergency kit in your vehicle in the event of a disaster or being stranded in your vehicle.
  • Ask about and understand the procedures in the disaster plan at your work and at your children’s school.
  • Keep you family disaster plan up to date and practice the steps in your plan so your family members understand what to do when disaster strikes.
