Abstract:
This chapter outlines the primary municipal solid waste (MSW) treatment methods commonly practiced in the integrated solid waste management industry as precursors to MSW incineration. Beginning with the most basic processing techniques, used in mass burn plants, and expanding to advanced separation, and biological and thermal treatment of MSW, this chapter gives the reader a basic understanding of the machinery, techniques and fundamental theories employed in the various methods of processing MSW for energy and material recovery.
