Chapter 11. Receiving Notifications

IN THIS CHAPTER

In Chapter 10, "Using Timers," you learned how to use timers to create a client-side event. This chapter will discuss a different kind of event, one that is generated on the server-side—notifications. We'll tell you what notifications are and the difference between push and pull notifications. Furthermore, we'll discuss the WAP Forum's Push Access Protocol, notification APIs, and security. Finally, we will demonstrate how the Phone.com send notification tool works and show you the syntax to create your own application for sending notifications.
