Chapter 2. Tools of the Trade

Before you can begin to write WAP applications, you first must create a work environment in which to write and test your code. In this book, you use device-emulator software available free from the Internet. The only things you need to create a test environment are a Microsoft Windows operating system and an Internet connection (to obtain the device-emulator software).

A number of tools are available for the WAP developer, ranging from freeware available from the Internet to major software packages that cost hundreds of dollars. This chapter presents some of the most popular tools available to the wireless developer and where to obtain them.
