It seems easy enough: Frame your image and render it. Many times, this will generate an adequate image, but to really bring your viewers into the scene, you need to incorporate a few techniques that have evolved from the world of photography and film.

The first is what is called the Rule of Thirds. You can refer to Figure 4.1 as I discuss this concept. This idea can be traced back to the late 1700s—1797 to be exact—and is used to help align elements within an image. It is used in everything from painting to photography to graphic design and is used to create everything from interest to tension within the image.
