Chapter 13. Working with SharePoint

In This Chapter

  • Setting up for development

  • Building SharePoint projects

  • Reviewing the templates for SharePoint

Visual Studio 2010 ships with project templates and project item templates that enable developing for SharePoint 2010. Although support for SharePoint existed in the previous version of Visual Studio, it was limited only to developing SharePoint 2007 workflows. In this chapter, we describe the different development concepts for SharePoint development and use examples to explain how to use SharePoint project templates that are available in Visual Studio 2010.

SharePoint itself (without even discussing SharePoint development) is a very big subject, and it's impossible to explain it in only one chapter, so we made it a whole part. In these chapters, we assume that you have some knowledge about the SharePoint basics (sites, lists, and so on) and that you know how to create lists, libraries, and items in SharePoint. If you want to find out more about SharePoint 2010, we suggest Vanessa William's excellent book SharePoint 2010 For Dummies (Wiley).

You need to install a couple of things on your development ...
