Swapping and paging considerations

In this section, we will focus on advanced swapping and paging possibilities. To speed up particular applications, we can utilize large pages in order to enable using pages more efficiently. For Linux and Windows, there are special configurations that need to be performed in order to enable this mechanism.

Huge pages and large pages

When processes allocate memory resources, usually chunks of 4 KiB, called pages, are mapped. These pages can be paged out, for example, swapped to disk.
