Network I/O Control

With NIOC, it is possible to portion the capacities of virtualized networks. It enables networking resources to be utilized in resource pools such as CPU and memory resources. As a result, the administrators can reserve and limit network capacities for particular workloads and virtual infrastructure processes.

Tip

NIOC requires a vSphere Enterprise Plus edition license.

NIOC requires vNetwork Distributed Switches (vDS) and divides the network traffic into the following groups:

  • vMotion
  • Fault tolerance
  • Management
  • NFS
  • iSCSI
  • VSAN
  • vSphere Data Protection
  • vSphere Replication
  • VM traffic (it is possible to create custom resource pools for various VM networks)
