Memory reclamation

The vSphere offers various techniques to reclaim used-memory resources. This might be necessary if the ESXi host runs out of memory. ESXi hosts should be designed in a way that they are never threatened to run out of memory.

If memory reclamation is needed, the following mechanisms are used in order:

  1. TPS
  2. Memory ballooning
  3. Memory compression
  4. Memory swapping
