Active Directory (AD)

Microsoft’s directory system, which consolidates a network’s user and device information.

address signaling

The process of transmitting dialed digits.

a-Law

A companding (that is, COMpressing exPANDING) algorithm used in countries outside the U.S. and Japan, which has a superior signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio for lower-volume samples, as compared to u-Law.

aliasing

Reconstructing samples incorrectly due to a lack of sufficient samples being taken.

alternate mark inversion (AMI)

An approach of representing binary 1s as voltages with alternating polarities.

amplitude

The volume of a waveform.
