PROPOSAL FOR AN ADAPTATION LAYER

[MCGR98] proposes a scheme to use an adaptation layer between MTP-3 to provide an encapsulation/decapsulation function, and to map between MTP-3 point codes and IP addresses.

There is no interworking of IP and SS7 (that is mapping of functions, by header interpretation). The encapsulation/decapsulation operations imply a tunneling operation. There are no SCCP operations visible in this approach. The idea is for the adaptation layer to emulate either MTP-3 or MTP-2 in the following scenarios:
