BYPASSING THE CIRCUIT-SWITCHED TECHNOLOGY TO REACH THE INTERNET

For several years, the telephone network will continue to operate with circuit-switched technologies, as explained in Chapter 1. In order to relieve the load on the telephone facilities, a number of vendors have built systems that are installed in the telephone local exchanges. These systems intercept calls destined for Internet or intranet users, and divert them to data facilities, thus avoiding the telco network and switches altogether. Figure 5-12 shows the general idea of circuit-switch bypass (CSB).
