Chapter 3. Digital Signal Processors (DSPs)

Digital signal processors (DSPs) are the engines for voice coders and modems, and they are finding their way into many other systems, such as answering machines, and consumer high-fidelity audio systems. In this chapter, we provide an overview of DSPs, and show how they are used to support low-bit rate coders for VoIP.
