Creating VM affinity/anti-affinity rules

Unlike the VM-Host affinity rules, the inter-virtual machine (VM-VM) affinity rules can work between individual VMs.

Getting ready

These rules are created for VMs that are in a DRS-enabled ESXi cluster, so make sure you have access to a vCenter managing the cluster.

How to do it…

The following procedure will help you create an inter-VM affinity/anti-affinity rule:

  1. From the vCenter's inventory home, navigate to the Hosts and Clusters view.
  2. Select the cluster, navigate to Manage | Settings | DRS Rules, and click on Add to bring up the Create DRS Rule window.
