Mapping a physical adapter (vmnic) to a dvUplink

Mapping a physical adapter to an existing dvUplink has to be done per host. Keep in mind that the physical adapter count cannot exceed the dvUplink count.

How to do it...

A physical adapter (vmnic) can be connected to a VDS either by using the vSphere Web Client GUI or by using the ESXi CLI.

Using the vSphere Web Client

The following procedure explains how to add an uplink to a VDS by using the vSphere Web Client:

  1. Connect to the vCenter Server using the vSphere Web Client and use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + 6 to go to the Network Inventory view.
  2. Right-click on the VDS you would like to map a physical adapter to and click on the menu item Add and Manage Hosts to bring up the Add and Manage Hosts ...
