Chapter 6. Managing Inventory

This chapter discusses the VI inventory structure in detail and how to manage the managed entities in the inventory. The inventory tree is important because it reflects how different managed entities are structured and organized, and it provides a unified mechanism for navigation. You learn how to create a new managed entity, move an existing managed entity, and delete a managed entity you no longer need.

This chapter also introduces you to the View and its five related managed objects. These six managed objects are useful to develop a GUI application that closely monitors the changes in the inventory and reflects them visually in your application in real time.
