When you place NSX Managers into a Cross-vCenter topology, a new concept of roles is introduced. Depending on the state of the NSX Manager, a different role may be applied. The roles are as follows:
- Standalone: Default option for all new installations. All objects are created in the globalroot-0 scope by default and are classified as local.
- Primary: In a Cross-vCenter topology, a single NSX Manager is assigned the primary role. This NSX Manager deploys and manages the UCC.
- Secondary: The secondary role designation is given to NSX Managers that move from the standalone role to secondary, so they can participate in the Cross-vCenter NSX topology.
