Chapter 2. VMware Horizon View Architecture

Introduction

It seems that the complexity of a virtual desktop environment has increased exponentially since the technology was first introduced. This has been driven by the demand to scale the solution to meet the needs of environments with 1000’s and 10s of 1000’s of desktops. As the scale increased, problems that were manageable with a 100 virtual desktops became acute problems. The complexity has come from pressure to continually improve the capabilities of a virtual desktop and also to address load by offloading it to different layers of the architecture such as caching on the host vs. storage infrastructure.

In this chapter we will start with the common server rolls found in a View environment. ...
