5.6    CONCLUSIONS

It has been shown that the unfolding transformation can unravel hidden concurrency in digital signal processing systems described by DFGs. Therefore, unfolding can be used to reduce the iteration period in DSP algorithms. Unfolding can be applied to generate word-parallel architectures that can be used for high-speed or low-power applications. In the context of programmable DSPs, unfolding can be used to reduce the number of clock cycles needed to compute an output sample.
