Chapter 17. Style & Edit Type

In this chapter, you’ll first learn how to select type for editing and updating legacy text. Then you’ll learn how to use the Character and Control palettes to apply typographic attributes, such as point size and leading; the Glyphs and OpenType palettes to insert special characters; the Paragraph palette to apply paragraph formats, such as alignment and indentation; the Paragraph Styles and Character Styles palettes to quickly apply whole collections of attributes; and word processing features to check spelling and replace text. At the end of the chapter, you’ll choose area type options, set tabs, wrap type around an object, create type with a shadow, create slanted type, and perform a few practice exercises.
