3 Imaging without a camera
Normally the territory of video art and experimental film, abstract and non-representational photography may be requested from a VFX unit. Subject matter requiring this sort of work includes: control, monitoring or futuristic displays within a setting; abstract and biological backgrounds into which actors are matted (e.g., in a dream, or suggesting some future process such as transmutation); to create exaggerated natural phenomena such as clouds or fire; to devise transitional image-bites; or to supply backgrounds for titles.
