Degrees of Security

Not every application needs to be the database equivalent of Fort Knox. A simple one-user address book doesn’t need the same level of security as an accounting system or a medical database that contains confidential patient information. Before you lose sleep worrying about how to secure your data against attacks from sophisticated information spies, you should consider your actual security needs and pick an appropriate solution. Often a simple solution provides adequate security with a lot less work than a more robust system.
