Chapter 3. Security
Security is an important consideration in many database applications. Unfortunately, it is also one of the more vendor-specific aspects of database programming. Access, SQL Server, and Oracle databases all handle security differently, so you cannot work out all the details until you know which database you are using.
This chapter discusses some general security issues. It then focuses on Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE). MSDE is a subset of SQL Server, so whatever security you implement with MSDE should work in SQL Server. That gives you the easiest migration path when you may need to move to a larger, higher performance database.
