Introduction to Help in .NET

Before you start learning how to incorporate help into an application, you first need a help file for this purpose. We used HTML Help Workshop to create the help system used for the examples in this chapter. HTML Help Workshop allows you to create a project and incorporate all of the help topics and keywords into a single distributable help file.

HTML stands for hypertext markup language and is commonly used for the purposes of defining Web pages. As applications are becoming more and more Web-centric, creating help content using HTML seems like the natural evolution of help systems. Microsoft HTML Help is now the standard help system for Microsoft platforms.
