What Are OData Services?

With OData services you expose data through networks, such as the Internet or a local intranet. Clients work with data by sending HTTP requests to the service and get back the appropriate response. Requests are based on the Open Data Protocol, which provides a standardized way to query and manipulate data. OData uses ATOM (that is, XML) and JavaScript Object Notation (JSON, a text-based format used in AJAX applications) serialization modes, and it can be used in an infinite number of scenarios because it is based on a pure web approach rather than on a specific technology. OData exposes data as resources that can be reached via URIs. Clients access and update data by using standard HTTP verbs such as GET, PUT, POST
