The Output Window

Visual Studio often uses external tools to perform actions. For example, when you compile a project, Visual Studio invokes the Visual Basic command-line compiler; the IDE captures the output of the tools it utilizes and redirects the output to the Output window. The purpose of the Output window is to show results of actions that Visual Studio has to perform or that you need Visual Studio to perform. So when you compile your projects, the Output window shows the results of the build process. In Figure 2.22, the Output window contains the results of the build process for a Visual Basic project.
